First things first

Before anything else: your visa

U.S. passport holders need an Indian e-Visa. It’s a simple online form, but do it early.

Apply ONLY at the official government site: indianvisaonline.gov.in. Third-party “visa services” charge triple for the same thing.
Choose the 30-day e-Tourist visa (~US$25). Approval typically takes 3-7 days; you’ll print the approval and show it on arrival.
Apply by early December. That leaves room for a photo re-upload or a slow week without touching your trip.
Your passport must be valid 6 months beyond arrival (through at least July 2027) with 2 blank pages. Check it today; renewals take 6-8 weeks.

Where you’re staying

Coorg Marriott Resort & Spa, Somwarpet Rd, Makkandur Village, Kodagu District, Madikeri, Karnataka 571201, India. 37 acres of forest in the UNESCO-listed Western Ghats; 108 rooms, villas, and cottages. The whole celebration happens on the property.

Do NOT book the Marriott yourself

Your room for the wedding is booked and paid for. It’s on us. For the nights of January 5 and 6 you don’t need to reserve anything or pay anything. Booking on the Marriott website yourself just creates a duplicate reservation at a worse rate, outside our block, and probably in the wrong building.

Arriving on the 4th, or staying past the wedding? Don’t book that yourself either. Message us on WhatsApp and we’ll arrange the extra nights with the hotel at a better rate than you’d get on your own. Those nights are on you.

Getting there

One airport: Mangaluru (IXE)

Everyone flies into Mangaluru International (IXE), no matter where you start. Put your flight in the RSVP and we’ll coordinate your pickup; the stay at the resort starts January 5, and it’s a scenic 2-3 hr drive up.

Why IXE? It’s a small, easy airport (no mega-terminal chaos for first-time travelers), it has direct flights to the Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi hubs, and it connects by short domestic hop from all three of India’s big international hubs:

Money

Currency is the Indian Rupee (₹). Cards work at the resort; carry ~₹5,000 (≈$60) in cash for small stops. Airport ATMs are the easy source.
Tell your bank you’re traveling. No need to buy rupees in the U.S.

Phone

Easiest: an eSIM (Airalo or similar) bought before you fly. You’ll have working data the minute you land.
Physical SIMs at the airport need your passport photo page; fine, just slower.
WhatsApp is how India communicates. Install it before you leave; it’s also how you reach us.

Power, weather, packing

India uses Type C/D/M plugs, 230V. Pack a universal adapter; your phone charger handles the voltage.
January in Coorg: gorgeous. Days 75-80°F, evenings 50-55°F in the hills, so bring a real layer for nights.
Comfortable shoes (the resort is 37 acres), sunscreen, insect repellent, any prescription meds in original packaging.

Good to know

Tap water: don’t. Bottled/filtered water is everywhere, including the resort.
Shoes come off at temples and homes; shoulders/knees covered at religious sites.
Head-wobble means yes. Usually.
