The Dubai Route
US West Coast → Dubai (2-3 days) → nonstop to Mangaluru (IXE)
Fly the westbound way and break the trip in the most theatrical layover city on Earth. Desert safari one day, Burj Khalifa and the souks the next. Then a short hop lands you practically at the wedding. Pricier on the ground, but iconic.

- Stopover: 2-3 days: desert safari, Burj Khalifa, beaches, the malls
- Leg 2: Air India Express nonstop Dubai → IXE, ~4 hr, daily. The only route on this page with a direct international flight to IXE
- Timezone trick: Dubai is UTC+4, India UTC+5:30. You do the hard adjustment on the long leg, then barely feel the hop

Route 02 · Eastbound · Best Value
The Bangkok Route
US West Coast → Bangkok (2-3 days) → Bangalore (BLR) → 1-hr hop to Mangaluru (IXE)
Temples, street food, rooftop nightlife. Your dollar goes further than anywhere else on this page. $30/night hotels, $3 meals that ruin home cooking for you. The best value route by a mile.

- Stopover: 2-3 days: Grand Palace, Chatuchak market, khao soi you’ll dream about
- Leg 2: Bangkok → Bangalore (BLR), ~4 hr nonstop (Thai Airways, IndiGo, Air India; ~18 flights a week)
- Leg 3: BLR → Mangaluru (IXE), 1 hr nonstop, ~$50 even in the wedding week, six-plus daily
Yes, this one has an extra leg (the Bangalore connection). Bangkok is worth it.

Route 03 · Eastbound · Whoa
The Tokyo Route
US West Coast → Tokyo (2-3 days) → JAL nonstop to Bangalore (BLR) → 1-hr hop to Mangaluru (IXE)
The shortest first leg on this page and the biggest “whoa” per day. January Tokyo is cold and clear, with thin crowds. Once in a lifetime, and you’re already on this side of the world.
- Leg 1: West Coast → Tokyo, nonstop from LAX ~12 hr · ~$1,000-1,600 round trip for the wedding window (checked July 2026: ZIPAIR ~$1,010, ANA ~$1,300, JAL ~$1,570). Still the shortest first leg of any route, with the cheapest nonstops
- Stopover: 2-3 days: food, temples, Shibuya at night, absurdly good convenience stores
- Leg 2: JAL nonstop Tokyo (NRT) → Bangalore (BLR), ~7.5 hr, daily (goes daily from Aug 2026)
- Leg 3: BLR → Mangaluru (IXE), 1-hr hop
The JAL Bangalore nonstop runs daily, so your dates are flexible. One ticket beats two; a separate booking wants a buffer day in Tokyo and travel insurance.
Route 04 · Already in India
The Delhi Route
US West Coast → Delhi (2-3 days) → domestic nonstop to Mangaluru (IXE)
Land in India first, adjust once, and spend your stopover already in the country: a Taj Mahal day trip (Agra, ~3 hr by train), the Red Fort, and Old Delhi street food.
- Leg 1: West Coast → Delhi, ~20-24 hr with 1 stop · ~$1,350-1,700 round trip for the wedding window (checked July 2026; December and January are peak season on this route)
- Stopover: 2-3 days, already timezone-adjusted for the wedding
- Leg 2: Delhi → Mangaluru (IXE), nonstop ~3 hr, daily (IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express)
Booking both legs on one ticket is simplest. Separate tickets? Leave a buffer day in Delhi. You’re already in India after leg 1, so the last hop is low-stress.
